Ex-deputy gets 7-year term for burglaries

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (AP) — A former southern Missouri deputy has been sentenced to seven years in prison for a series of break-ins.

Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster on Wednesday announced the sentence for former Oregon County deputy Dophes Barton. He pleaded guilty in March to four counts of burglary and four counts of stealing.

The crimes happened over a five-month period in late 2010. Koster's office says Barton broke into four buildings, including a Missouri Department of Transportation shed, and stole items that included an all-terrain vehicle, generators, chain saws and other tools.

Eileen you've just given proof that there is such a thing as a dumb question. Law enforcement does draw a unique set of human qualities; and not all good. There are ample bullies, grafters, mush-for-brainers, authoritarians, and crooks in law enforcement, and more so than other callings; but I can tell you there are far more good cops than bad, some even in spite of themselves. Your bad.

I know there are some knuckleheads out there, but honestly I've never had an un-professional interaction with a Jefferson City police officer.

Maybe others have had different experiences.

The closest thing to harrassment I've ever experienced is when I made an improper left turn. The officer pulled me over and asked what street I was just on. I blanked. He made fun of me for a few minutes and let me go.

Once I made a complaint about an officer I saw laughing and yakking on his cell phone while driving his car. I wasn't too serious about the complaint... I didn't have a car number or anything, but the police staff seemed to treat it very seriously. Maybe it was for show, but I felt like I got heard.

I can see there are people such as asb who have no sense of humor and jump to conclusions as well as judge others without asking questions. I have family members in law enforcement and their very good at what they do. I highly respect what police officers do and anyone knows there are bad apples in any profession.I won't lower myself by saying something ignorant to you as you did to me.

So, ASB was wrong to read the words you wrote on the page? I don't know whether ASB has a sense of humor or not, but your question contained no joke that I could see. I'm not sure how a reader was supposed to know you were joking.

I guess you're saying you were being ironic, but no one knows your family well enough to have gotten the irony from your question.
