Friday's WNBA Capsules

PHOENIX (AP) - Lindsay Whalen scored a season-high 29 points and the Minnesota Lynx remained perfect with a 78-60 victory over the Phoenix Mercury on Friday night.

Seimone Augustus had 14 points and Monica Wright added 11 for the Lynx (10-0), who set the record for the longest unbeaten start in league history.

Minnesota got its club-record 10th straight road win and 13th consecutive regular-season victory dating to last year.

DeWanna Bonner scored 18 points and Candice Dupree added 11 for the Mercury (2-6), who have lost five of six games without All-Star guard Diana Taurasi - out indefinitely with a strained left hip flexor.

Phoenix had its lowest scoring total since a 77-55 loss to San Antonio on Aug. 28, 2008, the team's first game after a monthlong hiatus for the Beijing Olympics.

SUN 97, LIBERTY 55

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) - Tina Charles scored 20 points and Connecticut had a record-setting first half en route to handing New York its worst loss in franchise history.

Mistie Mims and Renee Montgomery scored 13 points each, Asjha Jones had 10 points and eight rebounds and Kara Lawson also scored 10 points for the Sun (7-2).

All 11 players scored for Connecticut, which led 61-27 at halftime to set the league record for the largest lead at the break - besting Seattle's 33-point margin (60-27) at the half against Tulsa on Aug. 7, 2010.

Essence Carson scored 10 of her 14 points in the first half for New York (3-7), and was the team's only scorer in double figures.

The Sun's first-half total set a franchise record, topping the previous mark of 59 against Minnesota on Aug. 3, 2010.

MYSTICS 67, FEVER 66

WASHINGTON (AP) - Crystal Langhorne had 22 points and 13 rebounds and Washington held off Indiana to snap a four-game losing streak.

Matee Ajavon added 15 in her first start of the season for the Mystics (2-6), who had an 11-point lead in the second half before Indiana made a run in the fourth quarter.

Tamika Catchings scored 15 points and Tammy Sutton-Brown had 13 for the Fever (4-3), who lost their third straight.

Catchings had a shot to win it, but her 3-pointer from the top of the key with 2 seconds left bounced off the rim. Katie Douglas got the rebound along the baseline, but her one-hander missed at the buzzer.

DREAM 92, SPARKS 59

ATLANTA (AP) - Angel McCoughtry scored 31 points and Lindsey Harding added 18 to help Atlanta snap Los Angeles' five-game winning streak.

Sancho Lyttle had 13 points and rookie Aneika Henry grabbed nine rebounds for the Dream (4-5). Atlanta had lost three of four coming in, which may have factored in coach Marynell Meadors' decision to bring McCoughtry, the league's second-leading scorer, off the bench.

Nneka Ogwumike, the No. 1 overall pick in this year's WNBA draft, finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Sparks (7-2), who were off to their best start since 2003 but finished with their biggest defeat since losing by 35 last July 31 at Indiana.

Candace Parker finished with just nine points on 3-for-8 shooting for the Sparks.

STORM 86, SHOCK 73

TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Sue Bird scored 21 points and Katie Smith added 17 as Seattle snapped a four-game skid for its second win of the season - with both coming against winless Tulsa.

Tina Thompson had 16 points on 5-for-6 shooting for the Storm (2-7), who beat the Shock for the eighth consecutive time dating back to the 2010 season.

Jennifer Lacy scored 16 points to lead Tulsa (0-9).

Bird connected on her first nine shots from the field before missing her first attempt with 52.2 seconds left in the third quarter. Her accuracy set the tone for Seattle as the Storm shot 55 percent from the field.

Bird also became the first player to hit her first nine shots since San Antonio's Danielle Robinson against the Shock last Sept. 11.
