Church to begin its next chapter

Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church has experienced several chapters in its history of overcoming adversity, whether racial, internal or geographical.

Through its 162 years, the African Methodist Episcopal congregation has held true to cornerstones, including the ideals of freedom to worship God, helping those in need and promoting justice. This weekend, the church will celebrate its history while looking to write its next chapter with a ground-breaking.

"Building on a Strong Foundation" is the theme for the 11 a.m. ground-breaking ceremony Saturday in Jefferson City at the corner of Lafayette and Miller streets, the 162nd anniversary celebration at 3 p.m. Sunday at 529 Lafayette St., and for the next year as construction progresses.
