Steelman focuses Senate campaign on balanced federal budget

Sarah Steelman says Missourians - and Americans - are scared of the nation's economic future.

"I've been hitting the (need for a) balanced budget ... and how vital it is to get our financial house in order in Washington, D.C.," the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate told a reporter Wednesday.

If Missourians send her to Washington instead of Democrat Claire McCaskill, Steelman said she'll work to get a national "balanced budget amendment to the Constitution, with a cap on the size of government - just like we have here in Missouri."
