GOP starts process for circuit clerk election

Wanted: Republicans interested in being Cole County’s next circuit court clerk, to be the party’s candidate in a Nov. 6 special election to complete the last two years of former clerk Brenda Umstattd’s term.
Gov. Jay Nixon appointed Cole County Circuit Court Administrator Marilue Hemmel as the interim clerk through next January. Hemmel has been chosen as the Democratic Party’s nominee for the post.
Pat Thomas will head a special GOP committee to do preliminary interviews with potential candidates during the last week in June, the county’s Republican Central Committee’s members decided Tuesday night.
