Your Opinion: Library tax levy increase supported

Dear Editor,

The Splinter Group Book Club members are writing in support of the Missouri River Region Library levy increase. Cole and Osage County residents will vote on “Question A” at the Aug. 7 election. This is the first increase the library has requested for more than 45 years.

Several of our book club members have been patrons of our library for 60 years or more. We have witnessed the library consistently providing new services as they are needed by our community. The library has a computer center patrons can use without charge. The library has electronic books and other materials. We appreciate that the staff makes every effort to help locate a hard-to-find book.

The library offers programs for all age groups, serving the diverse needs of our community on a daily basis. Our book club members have participated in the Capital Read events, giving us the opportunity to meet and hear authors discuss their books.

The Splinter Group Book Club is supporting the levy increase because we believe a good library is vital to our community. This levy increase will allow the library to replace needed structural items, purchase more books, expand services to rural areas, and increase hours for the Osage County branch.

Please vote yes on “Question A” on Aug. 7.
