Romney campaign keeps focus on Obama comment

Mid-Missouri supporters of small businesses — and of Republican Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign — on Monday afternoon staged a small, “We Did Build This” rally on the side of Busch’s Florist in Jefferson City.

It was one of 18 rallies in 12 states Monday, following another two dozen rallies held around the nation last week, as the Romney campaign uses President Barack Obama’s own words against him.

U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer, R-St. Elizabeth, reminded Monday’s small gathering that they want “to raise the awareness of what we thought was a very insulting and very derogatory remark by the president with regards to small business.”

The president, Luetkemeyer said Monday, told his audience in a July 13 speech in Roanoke, Va.: “If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made it happen.”

Luetkemeyer then said Obama’s comments “are about as insulting as you can get. We all know that the greatness of our country is the people who make it up.”

Oh, good grief that comment by President Obama is taken totally out of context. If you watch the entire clip you will find out the truth. If Romney is running his campaign on this then he is being blatantly decietful. He has a win at any cost attitude even if it means outright lying. Romney made almost the exact same comments earlier in the year at a rally.

If it was taken out of context then the greatest, cleanest, articulate, african-American-Caucasian orator has nothing to worry about, and neither do you.

except for what's being done with the fake quote by the GOP. This one is already backfiring on them, so you're right, not a problem, for the President anyway.

I'm sure it was persuasive for those already inclined to believe the Republican and Teaparty treacle. Independents? Not so much.

Having seen the entire speech, I know you are misinformed and are passing on the lie, whether on purpose or out of foolishness doesn't even matter. His entire conversation was about the supporting infrastructure that makes business possible, and the increasingly desparate FRight did indeed run with it for days and days, and may have sealed their fate with it. Romoney's people and backers are liars, and will now be losers in November more certainly than ever, by their own hands..

The TAXPAYERS support the infrastructure. In case you don't remember, TAXPAYERS are the 53% of the highest income of population that pays ALL the taxes.

Another false statement. Everyone pays some taxes, even tho' everyone doesn't pay income tax. And all types of taxes go towards paying for the infrastructure.

Yes, indeed. The President's comment was about the fact that business owners could not make their profits without the benefit of the commons that everyone pays for: roads, airports, seaports, etc. In fact, these folks benefit disproportionately from the commons as compared to the average citizen. National and multinational businesses couldn't survive without the commons. That fact is ample justification for them paying a larger share of the nation's tax bill than they are now in order to support those commons. Our infrastructure is decaying while the wealthy are rolling in a larger and larger share of the nation's wealth.

The wealthiest 53% of the population benefit disproportionately as compared to the 47% of the population who PAYS NO TAXES? How do you figure that? Are you on crack, or did you go to JCHS?
