Eastside Jefferson City Walmart reopens after evacuation

Jefferson City's east side Walmart Supercenter was evacuated Friday evening while police and store security investigated a bomb threat, but uncovered no such devices in a search of the store.

During the 7 o'clock hour, the public was evacuated from the store and parking lot, and store employees assembled in a remote area of the parking lot. The all-clear was given and the store re-opened shortly after 10 p.m.

A police spokesman said after the search that no official information would be released Friday night.

During the on-site investigation, traffic was blocked from entering the street that leads directly to the store, but East McCarty Street traffic was allowed to pass over the overpass and through U.S. 50 on- and off-ramps.

Various Missouri news media reported the Jefferson City store was one of at least six in the state that received a bomb threat over the telephone Friday evening.

KCTV reports two Walmart stores in suburban Kansas City were evacuated. KOLR in Springfield reports two locations in Southwest Missouri also were evacuated. Fox2 in St. Louis reports a Walmart store in St. Peters received a similar threat.
