Columbia man charged with tax-credit fraud
Thursday, July 26, 2012
The Cole County grand jury has indicted a Columbia man with attempting to defraud the Missouri property tax credit program.
Christopher Hill, 27, was indicted for filing a false return. The indictment was unsealed Wednesday after Hill was arrested in Jefferson City by the Cole County Sheriff’s Department.
An investigation by the Missouri Department of Revenue’s Criminal Tax Investigation Bureau found Hill attempted to file a forged rent receipt with the department in an effort to obtain a property tax credit for 2011.
The Property Tax Credit Program is designed to provide relief to eligible senior citizens and disabled citizens.
