Tuesday, July 24, 2012
SCARBOROUGH, Maine (AP) — Hannaford Supermarkets is alerting consumers that Cargill Beef is voluntarily recalling 29,339 pounds of ground beef that may contain salmonella.
The 85-percent-lean ground beef was produced at Cargill’s plant in Wyalusing, Pa., on May 25, and repackaged for sale to consumers by customers of the Kansas-based company.
Cargill President John Keating says in a statement, “Food borne illnesses are unfortunate and we are sorry for anyone who became sick from eating ground beef we may have produced.”
Hannaford’s says consumers should check their ground beef for “use or sell by” dates between May 29 and June 16. Refunds will be offered for ground beef with those dates that is returned.

Kitty... I can't find the info on it. My little neice got Salmonella or however you spell it. She was in the hospital for 7 or 8 days. She was about 14 months I believe. It was so sad. I was scared for a while but faith and prayer got us all through. I felt so bad for my brother and his wife, so little sleep and another daughter to tend to. What a battle. Anyhow back to the gr/bf, I dont know where to look to find out more about it. I can not access the website that was given in the post.

I fixed the link. The long dash — was supposed to be an underscore _ instead. Certain special characters sometimes aren't transmitted properly through the system, and I try to fix them manually but I overlooked that one. Thanks for calling attention to it. --Rick Brown, online editor, News Tribune
