Utah's inaugural ukulele festival set this week

AMERICAN FORK, Utah (AP) - Break out the ukuleles. American Fork will be home to Utah's inaugural festival beginning Monday.

The weeklong festival ending Saturday will include concerts by renowned artists, and classes and workshops for beginners as well as advanced players.

Provo's Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/QoJgPJ ) the festival begins with a Monday night concert featuring Cork, Ireland native Tommy Connor on the Celtic ukulele, and Bolo, a recent Utah transplant from Hawaii who can play the guitar and ukulele at the same time.

The festival will end with a Saturday night concert featuring renowned Hawaiian fusion artist Brittni Paiva, her state's premier female ukulele player.

Festival organizer M Ryan Taylor says ukulele festivals have been popping up around the world and he hopes it becomes something American Fork is known for.
