Woman killed in hit-and-run was leaving Mo. jail

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - A pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run had been released from the Greene County Jail minutes earlier.

The Springfield News-Leader (http://sgfnow.co/O6P2Dj) reported that 55-year-old Christina Rumple was struck and killed a little before 1 a.m. Friday, less than a quarter mile from the jailhouse. Authorities say Rumple had been jailed for about four hours after she was involved in a crash and arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

Springfield Police say a witness followed a vehicle fleeing the scene of the hit-and-run. The witness said there were two men inside the vehicle, and police have questioned one man fitting the witness' description.
