Mo. woman charged in child's methadone death

GRANBY, Mo. (AP) - A southwest Missouri woman is charged with second-degree murder after her young son died of a methadone overdose.

The Newton County prosecutor on Thursday charged 33-year-old Elizabeth A. Farnam of Granby in the death of 22-month-old Logan Crow.

The Joplin Globe reports (http://bit.ly/NFRuy2 ) a probable-cause statement says Farnam obtained methadone illegally for her own use. She reportedly dropped a methadone pill while the boy was sitting on her lap in church on June 24 and couldn't find it.

The statement says the boy began sweating profusely as the family was returning home from church. The parents told investigators they put him down for a nap that afternoon and didn't check on him until the next morning.

Online court records do not indicate that Farnam has an attorney.
