JC man who had been sought by authorities now in custody
Friday, July 20, 2012
On Wednesday, Jefferson City police responded to the 200 block of Indian Meadow Drive regarding a possible suicidal/barricaded suspect.
During the course of that evening, the SWAT team responded to the residence and was unable to locate the suspect and a search in other parts of Jefferson City and surrounding counties began.
At that time, it was believed that the suspect was armed with a shotgun and handgun, and was believed to be a danger to himself and others. While investigations continued, police were unable to locate him until Thursday afternoon when a tip lead officers to the area of his residence. Officers followed a vehicle that the suspect was a passenger in, then tactically stopped the vehicle near the Highway 50 East/Cityview overpass. The suspect, at the time wanted for a mental investigation, was taken into custody and had in his possession a loaded 9mm handgun.
During the initial search for the suspect in his residence on Wednesday, however, one of the SWAT officers noticed items of an evidentiary nature that led him to believe that the suicidal suspect was also the same suspect in a sexual assault/forcible sodomy and home invasion that occurred on July 9th only two blocks away from the suspect’s residence.
Further search warrants were obtained and evidence was secured that directly linked the suspect to the sexual assault.
The suspect, originally wanted for a mental investigation, has now been arrested for the following charges:
Brett E. Courtney, 42, of 206 Indian Meadow Drive, Jefferson City Missouri.
Charge 1 - Attempted Forcible Rape
Charge 2 - Forcible Sodomy (deviant sexual intercourse by forcible compulsion)
Charge 3 - Forcible Sodomy, count 2
Charge 4 - Kidnapping
Charge 5 - Burglary 1st Degree
Charge 6 - Armed Criminal Action
All charges are felonies, and there is no bond on Courtney.

I don't think anything that comes out of a 6 month training program straight to a job is that spectacular at anything.

Point being, I hope the neighbors near the crimescene knew of the incident at least, so they could vigilant for anything going on unusual. Something that bad, seems the whole city should have been put on alert.

Connor, I was thinking the same thing... That cop was one lucky SOB to see such compelling evidence just laying around whole looking for a potentially dead body ;)

" sexual assault/forcible sodomy and home invasion that occurred on July 9th"
One would think that such a crime would be reported in the local paper.
If it was I surely missed it.
Was it???
