Post 5 routs Fulton to win district crown

NEW BLOOMFIELD — It wasn’t their best effort of the season. But it was more than good enough to win the title.

A day after routing Fulton Post 210 20-2 in seven innings, the Jefferson City Post 5 Seniors needed another win to wrap up the best two-of-three District 8 Tournament at New Bloomfield High School.

“It can be hard to stay focused,” Post 5 manager Denny Hughes said after Jefferson City claimed the crown with a 13-4 victory Thursday night. “Taking nothing away from Fulton, they played hard to the end, we tried to, but it’s tough.”

The game featured flashes of very good play for Post 5 — some outstanding defensive efforts, strong performances from three of its pitchers and a pair of long home runs. There were also a few mental lapses at the plate and one struggling inning on the mound.
