LOS ANGELES (AP) - Pinch-runner Everth Cabrera stole home to tie the game with two out in the ninth inning and Will Venable came around with the winning run when closer Kenley Jansen threw the ball past catcher A.J. Ellis, leading the San Diego Padres to a 7-6 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night.
Alex Hinshaw (1-1) recorded two outs to get the victory, ending the Padres' 10-game losing streak at Dodger Stadium. All-Star Huston Street worked a perfect ninth for his 14th save in 14 attempts.
Jansen (4-3) ended up with his fourth blown save opportunity in 20 chances.
Yonder Alonso and Venable sparked the winning rally with consecutive singles, putting runners on the corners with none out. Jansen then struck out Cameron Maybin at the end of a grueling 11-pitch at-bat and retired pinch-hitter Mark Kotsay on a popup after Venable stole second.
Alexi Amarista worked the count to 2-2, and Cabrera saw an opening while Jansen kicked the dirt in front of the rubber a couple of times with his back turned away from third. He dashed for home and a stunned Jansen threw the ball all the way to the screen, allowing the go-ahead run to score.
PHILLIES 8, ROCKIES 5
DENVER (AP) - Vance Worley pitched into the seventh inning and hit a two-run double, Carlos Ruiz added a three-run homer, and the Philadelphia Phillies hung on to beat the Colorado Rockies 8-5 Saturday night to snap a five-game losing streak.
Worley (5-5) allowed two runs on eight hits in 6 2-3 innings. He struck out two and walked two, worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth and benefited from an especially strong outing by All-Star closer Jonathan Papelbon who quelled a late Rockies rally by getting five outs for his 19th save in 21 chances.
With one out in the eighth, reliever Jake Diekman hit Tyler Colvin with a pitch and walked Jordan Pacheco. Brian Sanchez relieved and Wilin Rosario hit a three-run homer, pulling the Rockies to within 6-5.
The Phillies jolted Jeremy Guthrie (3-9) with a four-run first. He allowed four runs on seven hits in 4 2-3 innings.
GIANTS 3, ASTROS 2
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Hector Sanchez singled in Pablo Sandoval in the bottom of the 12th inning, giving the San Francisco Giants a 3-2 win over the Houston Astros on Saturday night.
Sanchez, whose throwing error in the top of the ninth helped Houston score the tying run and force extra innings, hit a sharp grounder off Houston closer Brett Myers that bounced off the glove of Astros second baseman Jose Altuve and went into right field. Sandoval, who opened the inning with an infield single, easily beat the throw home from Matt Downs.
Jeremy Affeldt (1-1) got the last out in the top of the 12th.
It stayed tied until Sandoval singled leading off the 12th against Myers (0-4). Angel Pagan then singled before Sanchez delivered the game-winner.
BRAVES 8, METS 7
ATLANTA (AP) - Jason Heyward hit a tiebreaking RBI single to cap a three-run rally and the Atlanta Braves took advantage after the umpires reversed a call, beating the New York Mets 8-7 Saturday for their sixth straight win.
The Braves' comeback prevented a shaky R.A. Dickey from getting his 11th win in a row. Bobby Parnell (2-2) gave up RBI singles with two outs in the eighth to Michael Bourn, Martin Prado and Heyward.
Mets manager Terry Collins was ejected while disputing a call in Atlanta's two-run fifth.
With the score 3-all and Prado on first base with one out, Heyward hit a sinking liner that left fielder Jordany Valdespin charged. Third base umpire Dale Scott, the crew chief, initially ruled Valdespin made a diving catch and Prado, who had reached second, was trapped while retreating for an apparent inning-ending double play.
But after the umpires conferred, they ruled - correctly, as replays showed - that Heyward's ball bounced. The umpires then placed Prado safely on second.
Anthony Varvaro (1-0) pitched the eighth to get the win and Craig Kimbrel finished for his 27th save in 28 chances.
REDS 3, CARDINALS 2, 10 innings
CINCINNATI (AP) - Ryan Ludwick homered in the 10th inning, leading the Reds to their fifth consecutive victory.
Cincinnati's surge has moved it back into first place in the NL Central. The Reds have matched their season high at 11 games over .500.
Ludwick, a former Cardinal, got two strikes to start his at-bat against Victor Marte (2-2), fouled off three pitches, then worked the count full. He connected for his 13th homer, flinging his helmet away before jumping into the pile of teammates at home.
Ludwick's drive barely cleared the wall in left but it was good enough to make a winner out of Sam LeCure (3-2), who pitched a perfect 10th inning.
Yadier Molina homered for St. Louis, which stranded 11 runners.
CUBS 4, DIAMONDBACKS 1
CHICAGO (AP) - Ryan Dempster pitched six innings to extend his scoreless streak to 33, matching the Cubs' franchise record set by Ken Holtzman in 1969.
Dempster (5-3) allowed four hits and set a career best by winning his fifth straight start. He leads the majors with a 1.86 ERA.
Cubs manager Dale Sveum limited Dempster to 89 pitches. The right-hander made his second start since coming off the disabled list with tightness in his pitching shoulder.
Darwin Barney hit an RBI double for the Cubs, who have won 11 of 15. Carlos Marmol pitched a shaky ninth for his ninth save in 11 chances.
Chris Young homered for Arizona, which has lost eight of 11. Joe Saunders (4-6) returned after being on the disabled list with a left shoulder strain and pitched six innings.
MARLINS 2, NATIONALS 1
MIAMI (AP) - Mark Buehrle pitched seven innings to help Miami snap a three-game slide.
Carlos Lee and John Buck each drove in a run for the Marlins.
Buehrle (9-8) allowed one run and six hits, struck out seven and walked two while improving to 4-0 with a sparkling 0.94 ERA in his last four starts. Steve Cishek pitched 1 2-3 innings to earn his second save.
All-Star Gio Gonzalez (12-4) struck out nine in six innings for Washington. He gave up two runs and five hits.
PIRATES 6, BREWERS 4
MILWAUKEE (AP) - Andrew McCutchen hit a two-run shot for his fourth homer in the last three games, leading Pittsburgh to the victory.
Casey McGehee also went deep and Kevin Correia pitched six effective innings as the Pirates remained tied with the Cincinnati Reds for the NL Central lead. Correia (6-6) allowed four runs, two earned, and four hits while improving to 4-0 with a 3.81 ERA in his last five starts.
McCutchen hit his 20th homer in the third and also made a nice sliding catch on a sinking line drive by Martin Maldonaldo with two runners on to end the eighth. Joel Hanrahan pitched the ninth for his 24th save.
Milwaukee starter Marco Estrada struck out 11 in 5 2-3 innings and was charged with three runs and six hits. Kameron Loe (4-3) got the loss.
