The deceased male subject has been identified as: Clifford R. Karst age 42 of Warrenton, Missouri. The name of the Missouri Highway Patrol Trooper will not be released.
Members of the Maries County Sheriff's Office will be attending the autopsy Thursday morning, and this is still considered an active investigation. However, at this time no foul play is suspected.
The Maries County Sheriff’s Office responded Wednesday evening to a report of an off-duty Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper who was being held at gun point inside her residence by an ex-boyfriend.
Upon arrival of sheriff’s deputies, the off-duty trooper was able to exit the residence when a single shot was fired.
After a short stand-off, Maries and Phelps County deputies entered the residence and found a male subject with what appeared to be a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
