Child dies in apartment fire

NOEL, Mo. (AP) - Firefighters have found the body of a 5-year-old girl in a burned-out apartment building in southwest Missouri.

KYTV reports (http://bit.ly/NZAqSU ) the fire broke out around 7:30 p.m. Monday in the town of Noel (NOH'-uhl), just north of the Arkansas state line.

McDonald County Sheriff Rob Evenson says units from seven neighboring departments helped fight the blaze at the three-unit building.

Firefighters and law enforcement officers were told a 5-year-old girl was still inside the building, but they were unable to get inside. Her body was found after the fire was out.

The girl's father was flown to a Springfield hospital with serious burns.

Names of the father and daughter are being withheld while relatives are notified. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
