Area performers shine at MSSU Lion Invite

JOPLIN - Several area athletes posted top-eight finishes in the MSSU Lion Invite held Friday and Saturday.

Central Missouri's Erin Alewine (Jefferson City High School) won the long jump (19-3 1/4) and 60-meter hurdles (8.83) and was third in the 400-meter dash (58.88). She was also part of the Jennies' 4x400-meter relay A team that finished second (4:02.99).

Missouri Southern's Melanie Bower (Linn High School) was second in the pole vault (11-1 3/4) and part of the Lady Lions' 4x400-meter relay team that came in fifth (4:14.21).

Central Missouri's Jessica Fennewald (Blair Oaks High School) tied for seventh in the long jump (16-8 1/2), while teammate Lori Mortenson (Tipton High School) was seventh in the 60-meter dash (8.02). Both were part of the Jennies' 4x400-meter relay B team that came in sixth (4:19.96).

On the men's side, Central Missouri's Jacob White (Southern Boone High School) was seventh in the 400-meter dash (52.34).
