Your Opinion: Tax plan is 'socialism for rich'

Dear Editor:

A $600 cost per family over 10 years. That’s what the Transformation sales tax increase will inflict on every family.

Now is your chance to vote no on the “socialism for the rich” transformation tax on Feb. 7.

Taxation without representation, accountable to no one, without audits or progress reports to the taxpayers, and loss of control of our taxes. That’s what we will have if we don’t defeat this mean-spirited sales tax increase.

The City Council had the opportunity to add yearly auditing to the ordinance creating this tax and yet chose not to.

But the thing that smells worse than a dog after an encounter with a skunk is the fake tax board they set up to insulate the Chamber of Commerce from criticism. The sham tax board is nothing more than the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce hiding under a rock. And like bugs that scatter when sunlight hits them, the chamber will scatter under the sunshine of public scrutiny and criticism. All of the advisors to the tax board are chamber members most likely to benefit from the spending of the tax dollars. No wonder they don’t want the sunshine of audits.

You will pay and pay some more for 10 years if this thing passes. Over 10 years the average family will pay out $600 (more if your kids eat a lot) because this tax is also on groceries.

Yup, groceries.

Thank you Chamber of Commerce. Stop socialism for the rich.

Vote no on Feb. 7.
