RAYTOWN, Mo. (AP) - An outbreak of flu-like symptoms has prompted a suburban Kansas City school district to cancel classes in all 18 of its schools Monday.
The Kansas City Star (http://bit.ly/A4QYVR ) reported that the Raytown School District is disinfecting all its buildings and buses. Spokeswoman Cathy Allie says the work is expected to continue into Monday.
Allie said the number of absences has escalated steadily since Tuesday. At one school, Little Blue Elementary, only 65 percent of the students showed up Friday, and 13 of 32 staffers were out sick.
Allie says symptoms reported in Raytown schools included vomiting, fever, coughing and respiratory problems. However, there is no official diagnosis of influenza.
