Evangel University mourns soldier's death

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Students and faculty Evangel University are remembering a graduate who died this week in Afghanistan.

The Army says 1st Lt. David Johnson was killed Wednesday by a roadside bomb while he was on foot patrol. The 24-year-old was from Horicon, Wis.,

The university in Springfield held a memorial service Thursday for Johnson, who graduated in 2010.

Campus Pastor John Plake says Johnson dreamed of being in the Army. KY3-TV reports (http://bit.ly/yNmlFB) that his teachers and friends said they will remember Johnson for his smile, his kindness, and his heart for serving others.

Johnson was in Afghanistan for about one month before he was killed. He spoke to students at Evangel just before he left for Afghanistan.
