Personal loss led to Rita Esterly to joy of helping others

When her daughter experienced a traumatic brain injury several years ago, Rita Esterly was thrown back into the memories of loss.

Her daughter’s temporary experience was the impetus Esterly needed to write “Time to Mend” 14 years after her middle son succumbed to childhood brain cancer.

“I didn’t want to write a book, but circumstances compelled that I write it,” she said. “I listen to where the path of life is leading me; I’m aware of all the messages that come in different forms.”

The same year she published, Esterly also accepted a four-year commitment to Rotary district leadership.

“No one gets motivated to act unless there is meaning behind what they are doing,” Esterly said.
