MoDOT shuffling sheds, personnel at Lake

OSAGE BEACH, Mo. - The Camdenton project office will be gone and the Osage Beach maintenance shed reopened when the state highway department completes its five-year plan to reduce personnel and equipment costs by $512 million, according to Bob Lynch, Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) engineer.

Although the Osage Beach office is no longer manned, Lynch said, the agency still retains possession of the facility because of a long-term lease it has with the Missouri State Parks Division, while the department owns the Camdenton project office outright and therefore has the option of selling it.

"We can't close the Osage Beach sheds completely because we lease it from (Lake of the Ozarks) state park," Lynch said. "However, we own the Camdenton facility outright and so the plan is to move the personnel and equipment from this office (in Camdenton) and turn the Osage Beach maintenance shed into the lake area's project office."

While no date has been set for making the shift, Lynch said, the Osage Beach facility on Highway 42 continues to be used for storage of salt and other products needed to maintain state-owned highways in Camden and Miller counties.

In the meantime, Lynch said, MoDOT's two other Miller County facilities - in Eldon and Iberia - will remain open, although some staff and equipment may be moved to ....
