Dreams to Reality passes on donation to Salvation Army Thrift Store

The leaders and volunteers at Dreams to Reality work to ensure they help turn the dreams of their clients into their reality by providing them with clothing to wear to a job interview, in hopes it will lead them to a career.

When the group got a donation of about 1,000 necklaces, they pulled some to place in their stock to share with clients who also needed an extra accessory to complete their outfit. Kristie Callaway, executive director of Dreams to Reality, said the group knew they would not be able to use all of the necklaces in their inventory.

"It is our policy that if we cannot use something, we pass it along," she said. "When we get a donation, we do one of three things with it."

First, Callaway said, items are considered for the inventory of the organization. Next, the item is considered for the group's two annual boutique sales in which they sell clothing and other donated items to help support the organization. If the items do not fall into those categories, then they are donated to other nonprofit organizations. Many times, those organizations happen to be a United Way agency, like Dreams to Reality.
