Missouri Senate works to save federal funds

On a voice vote after a half-hour debate, the Missouri Senate on Thursday gave first-round approval to a bill that would bring the state back into compliance with federal regulations involving driving while intoxicated cases and commercial drivers' licenses and medical records.

A final vote is needed before the measure can be sent to the House for its approval.

"This bill represents about $75 million total for (road) construction and, in a $600 million budget, that's a pretty good chunk," said state Sen. Bill Stouffer, R-Napton, who sponsored the new changes.
