Your Opinion: Observations on Marines' behavior

Dear Editor:

Well we have another video that will set the progressives off. Four Marines were filmed relieving themselves on the dead bodies of three Taliban fighters. I wish that these Marines had not performed this act, but I can certainly understand their situation.

To put things in context let's try to remember some of the acts these "peace loving radical Muslims" have performed. During their rule in Afghanistan, the Taliban and their allies committed massacres against Afghan civilians, denied UN food supplies to 160,000 starving civilians, conducted a policy of scorched earth burning vast areas of fertile land and destroying tens of thousands of homes during their rule from 1996-2001

Two sixth century monumental statues of standing Buddha's carved into the side of a cliff in the Bamyan valley in the Hazarajat region of central Afghanistan were destroyed in March 2001 by the Taliban of Mullah Omar following a decree stating: "all the statues around Afghanistan must be destroyed."

I could go on and on about the many atrocities performed by the Taliban while they were in power in Afghanistan and since, but for the sake of space I will not. I would recommend that you just pay attention to the daily news and do some research about them.

I agree with Col. Adam West when he said, "I have sat back and assessed the incident with the video of our Marines urinating on Taliban corpses. I do not recall any self-righteous indignation when our Delta snipers Shugart and Gordon had their bodies dragged through Mogadishu. Neither do I recall media outrage and condemnation of our Blackwater security contractors being killed, their bodies burned, and hung from a bridge in Fallujah.

"All these over-emotional pundits and armchair quarterbacks need to chill. Does anyone remember the two soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division who were beheaded and gutted in Iraq?

"The Marines were wrong. Give them a maximum punishment under field grade level Article 15 (non-judicial punishment), place a General Officer level letter of reprimand in their personnel file, and have them in full dress uniform stand before their Battalion, each personally apologize to God, Country, and Corps videotaped and conclude by singing the full US Marine Corps Hymn without a teleprompter.

"As for everyone else, unless you have been shot at by the Taliban, shut your mouth, war is hell."
