1,000 mistakenly accused of red-light violations

ARNOLD, Mo. (AP) - About 1,000 people have mistakenly received letters incorrectly stating that they owe fines for running red lights in the St. Louis-area town of Arnold.

American Traffic Solutions mistakenly sent out the letters in Arnold's first attempt to collect unpaid fines from those allegedly caught by red-light cameras. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/zBa5Nf) reports that the city sent out 8,000 letters on Friday.

City Attorney Bob Sweeney says the problem was the result of a communication error between Arizona-based American Traffic Solutions and the state's municipal court system. Those who incorrectly received a letter had already resolved their cases.

Another letter will be sent advising them to disregard the payment request.
