Church burglar receives probation

Cole County Judge Dan Green recently placed a 17-year-old Cole County man on three years supervised probation in connection with a burglary of Cornerstone Baptist Church, 4930 Old Lohman Road, in March 2011.

Jared Hayes, 4900 Charm Oak Drive, was charged with second-degree burglary and first-degree property damage.

He must also pay $1,488 in restitution.

According to sheriff's department reports, Hayes forced his way into the building and did several thousand dollars worth of damage to the church. This included spray painting and blocking drains, which led to flooding in the building.
