When the announcement is made that school will not be in session, many parents scramble to deal with the change in routine. The excitement of a day off can quickly turn to the restlessness of cabin fever if there isn't a contingency plan in place. A snow day can be a time for extra family fun and bonding with the right approach.

Val Jones is a junior high teacher at St. Peter Interparish School. She is also the mother of five children.

"I love snow days," Jones said. "Everyone is stuck at home, and we make time for each other. Technology is put aside. We pull out the board games and stay in our pajamas all day."
