Redistricting would shrink 4th Ward

Jefferson City officials recently began redistricting, moving forward with an option that will significantly shrink the physical size of the 4th Ward as it has seen the most population growth in the last 10 years.

Earlier this week, the City Council was presented with two options for redistricting possibilities, with the main difference being one option would have moved the downtown area from the 2nd Ward to the 1st Ward, an option that was rejected by the council.

The option the staff is proceeding with will avoid moving the downtown into the 1st Ward, which has had the least amount of growth, by moving a portion of the 5th Ward into the 1st.
