5th Ward election has four contenders

On the last day open for filing to run for the 5th Ward council seat, a fourth candidate has entered the race.

Dr. Sharon Koechling-Burnett filed for the seat once held by Dave Griffith on Friday afternoon. The filing period for the 5th Ward was reopened Monday after Griffith resigned from the council and withdraw his name from the ballot.

Griffith, who had been the only candidate to file in the 5th Ward, was recently named executive director for the American Red Cross Capital Area Chapter, which has a policy stating no employee can be an elected official.

Koechling-Burnett joins Bob Gilbert, Larry D. Henry Jr. and J. Scott Stacey on the April 3 ballot.
