Red Cross: Transition part of national restructuring

Agency says title of position changed; former CEO says job eliminated

An announcement late last month from the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross that named Dave Griffith its new executive director has left many wondering what happened to the chapter's former regional CEO, Beth Bauer.

When reached by telephone, Bauer said last week she did not want to jeopardize her severance package by speaking too freely. She did say her position as regional CEO for the Red Cross' Capital Area Chapter was eliminated, as a result of the organization's national restructuring.

Red Cross officials said across the nation, regions with fewer than one million residents are being integrated with other regions - so that some states, like Arkansas and Georgia, are being studied for consolidation into regions that would be the entire state.
