Man admits to role in death of football player

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (AP) - A St. Charles County man faces sentencing in March after admitting to a role in the killing of a football player.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 22-year-old Cory Jermaine Brooks of O'Fallon pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree murder and drug conspiracy.

Brandon Joyce was killed in December 2010. Brooks says he and two other men agreed to sell Joyce cocaine. A struggle occurred between Joyce and one of the other men, and Joyce was shot in the head. He died four days later.

Cases are pending for the other suspects.

Joyce was from St. Charles and the son of former St. Louis Cardinals punter Terry Joyce. He was an offensive tackle who played at Illinois State. He was on the St. Louis Rams' offseason roster in 2010.
