Jefferson City to begin drafting boundary line with St. Martins

The line in the sand is being drawn when it comes to annexation.

In a closed session vote, the City Council has authorized staff to begin drawing a boundary between Jefferson City and St. Martins that would establish where either city could annex up to, but not beyond.

Michelle Gleba, communications manager with the city, said the move to begin the proposed agreement is the result of several months of negotiations between the city and St. Martins, and it essentially eliminates the possibility or need of a lawsuit by the city.

That last line "eliminates the possibility or need of a lawsuit by the city" seems pretty clear. Jefferson City and St. Martins are agreeing to split up the available turf rather than fight over it.

Big City (?) government wanting to take over all of Cole County. Sad but they can't even take care of what they have now, and like a spoiled 4 year old, they want more.

St. Martins needs to lawyer up and fight this bullying by Jeff City.

That would only benefit the lawyers. Jefferson City has a lot more resources than St. Martins and civility needs to win once in a while.

I agree...the city should maybe worry about fixing the bad areas it has now before trying to take on new responsibilities
