Chiefs coaching situation front and center

Crennel wants to stay

KANSAS CITY - Romeo Crennel should know soon whether he'll have the permanent head coaching job in Kansas City.

The Chiefs' interim coach certainly didn't hurt his chances over the final three games of the season. He engineered the only victory in the regular season over Green Bay, and beat another division champion on Sunday at Denver. The lone loss came in overtime to Oakland.

The loss eliminated the Chiefs from playoff contention, and they wound up finishing 7-9 and last in the AFC West. But with a bunch of star players coming back from injury, among them Jamaal Charles, Matt Cassel, Eric Berry and Tony Moeaki, they're likely to be favored in the AFC West next season.
