Missouri House endorses tax amnesty period

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - The Missouri House has endorsed a tax amnesty period for delinquent taxpayers.

State government would waive interest and penalties for those who pay overdue income, sales, use and corporate franchise taxes between Aug. 1 and Oct. 31 of this year. Delinquent taxpayers would need to pay off their balance and agree to comply with state tax laws for the next eight years.

House members voted 145-4 to give the measure first-round approval Wednesday. It needs another round of approval before moving to the state Senate.

Missouri twice has offered tax amnesties within the past decade. The amnesty brought in $74 million during the 2002 fiscal year and $42 million a year later.
