BALLWIN, Mo. (AP) — Flipping another driver the bird might be rude, but it’s no longer illegal in the St. Louis County town of Ballwin.
Aldermen voted 6-2 Monday to repeal city ordinances that would ban extending body parts outside a car.
The ordinance came about after a road rage incident last year, when one driver made an obscene gesture at another. The American Civil Liberties Union hired an attorney to defend the motorist who made the one-finger gesture, citing freedom of speech. The case was eventually dropped.
The ACLU says freedom of expression is a core American value.
