Less than a week ago, the picture surrounding the Class 3 District 9 girls basketball tournament seemed crystal clear.
Hermann was 23-0 and ranked No. 1 in the state, with second-seeded Fatima and No. 3 St. James lurking a bit behind. But in a crazy final week of the regular season, the dominos began to fall and the wheels were set in motion as the top three seeds lost games to lower-seeded district opponents.
Fatima defeated Herman. Cuba defeated St. James. Blair Oaks defeated Fatima.
"It's really going to be the team that's going to put together a good week of basketball," said Blair Oaks coach Leroy Bernskoetter, whose team is the fourth seed and opens tournament play against fifth-seeded Cuba at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Hermann. "When you look at it, a lot of different things have happened (last) week."
