Your Opinion: Missing the mark on humane action

Dear Editor:

I resent Kristie Scheulen's comment in her Feb. 17 letter that I lack common sense.

In the early 1900s strong men were hired to knock cattle in the head before slaughter. They sometimes missed and sometimes weren't strong enough to knock the cow out.

Why is Kristie so sure being hit in the head with a pick ax causes immediate death? How does she know the animals didn't suffer? The answer is she doesn't.

Kristie will defend agribusiness right or wrong. All I want is for every animal to be treated humanely.
