Hovis to chair Missouri Tourism Commission

Scott Hovis of Jefferson City, executive director of the Missouri Golf Association, recently was elected chairman of the Missouri Tourism Commission, where he's been a member since 2009.

He succeeds Marcia Bennett, St. Joseph Convention and Visitors Bureau director, as the chair.

"I have learned a lot from Marci, serving as her vice chair for the past two years," Hovis said in a news release. "I look forward to building on our successes, and continuing our efforts to promote Missouri as a top tourism destination."

During his career, Hovis has been active in the golfing industry, spending several years as a professional golfer playing at a variety of tournament levels, and as junior golf director for the Missouri Golf Association.

Brenda Tinnen, who was appointed to the Tourism Commission in 2011, was elected vice chair. She has served six years as senior vice president and general manager of Kansas City's Sprint Center/AEG-KC.
