The Cole County Commission on Friday approved a new map for the Eastern and Western districts in the county to reflect population growth in the western side of the county.
Like its city and state counterparts, Cole County had to work on district boundaries to keep the populations roughly equal, as required after each federal census. The new boundaries had to be in place before Tuesday, which is the first day of candidate filing for county commissioners.
Commissioners on Friday approved a preliminary map that has 36,223 residents in the Western District and 36,279 residents in the Eastern District.
