Small business owners had a chance to discuss concerns and issues with U.S. Rep. Vicky Hartzler, R-Harrisonville, on government involvement with job creation.
Roughly 19 area business owners gathered at the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday for an hour-long jobs roundtable with Hartzler.
"Mainly, I'm here to listen to you," Hartzler said. "I view you as the experts."
People in attendance raised issues with regulations, questions on Social Security requirements, tax issues and the future of transportation funds.
Gary Wilbers, owner of Mid-America Wireless, said he would like to see the issue of Internet sales taxes addressed.
"This is a huge issue," Wilbers said. "We're getting clobbered on this."
Lawmakers supporting an online sales tax are making another push at the Missouri Capitol this session, but attempts in the state to allow for collection of Internet sales taxes have been slowed, in part, by Republicans who have pledged not to enact new taxes. Supporters have argued it's already a tax, just one that isn't collected.
