Theft suspect falls 50 feet at rock quarry

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (AP) - A man suspected of trying to steal scrap metal is hospitalized after falling more than 50 feet from a cliff at a rock quarry in St. Louis County while trying to elude police.

The suspect's name and his condition were not released.

Police were called about 1 a.m. Wednesday after a suspicious rental truck was parked near pallets of scrap metal. When officers arrived, two men ran. One was captured quickly.

Police tracked the second man to Fort Bell Quarry in north St. Louis County. Officers found that the man had fallen from a cliff. He was taken by helicopter to Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
