St. Louisan Fred Sauer is a vocal opponent of embryonic stem cell research.
For the better part of six years, he's been among the voices trying to prevent taxpayers from supporting a practice he believes is immoral - and he's been back in court since December with a lawsuit trying to prohibit any spending on the new Missouri Science and Innovation Reinvestment Act, usually called MOSIRA.
But, at the end of a half-hour hearing Friday morning, Cole County Circuit Judge Dan Green said: "I'm pretty much ready to decide the whole case," appearing to be ready to end the latest lawsuit challenging Gov. Jay Nixon's efforts to implement the MOSIRA bill, which lawmakers passed last fall during a special session.
However, Green didn't issue a final order Friday, after asking lawyers from both sides to prepare more documents clarifying their positions.
