Teacher group opposes waiver by state for No Child Left Behind

The Missouri State Teachers Association (MSTA) opposes a plan by Missouri to seek a waiver from the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation.

The teachers' biggest objection is that the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has not completed a financial impact study to determine the associated costs of the new state plan to local school districts and Missouri taxpayers.

MSTA Director Kent King said the department has not even indicated if it ever intends to complete a financial impact study.
