COLUMBIA, Mo. — John Carter’s recipe for success was simple, even if it wasn’t easy.

After being out sick all week, the idea for the Jefferson City senior was to try and spend as little time on the mat as possible to save his energy.

A pin in 1:24 is a pretty good solution to the situation.

Carter (285 pounds) pinned Oakville’s James Broderick in the first round of the Missouri State High School Activities Association Wrestling Championships on Thursday night at Mizzou Arena.
