Woman arrested after OD on heroin

A Jefferson City woman overdosed on heroin Sunday and was arrested after she was treated at a local hospital.

Officers responded to a medical emergency call in the 600 block of Waverly Street about 1:47 p.m. Upon arrival, it was determined that a 21-year-old female had overdosed on heroin. Cole County EMS responded and transported the subject to a local hospital for treatment.

During their initial investigation, officers located signs of narcotics use and drug paraphernalia. Consent to search was denied by the resident of the home, and officers obtained a search warrant.

During the service of that search warrant, officers located a small amount of heroin, drug paraphernalia associated with heroin use, as well as marijuana. The 21-year-old female victim, a Jefferson City resident, was released from the hospital and arrested for possession of paraphernalia and possession of heroin.

A civilized society arrests her to protect her from herself. Darwin would say let nature take it's course. Some days I have these debates in my mind about which course is better. If we let the addicts kill themselves off is society better off? If it were my 21 year old daughter, sister, neice, etc I'd be snatching this girl up by her ears and taking her to rehab.

Or we could just send her off to Con-college and let her learn from more experienced criminals...

When someone you care about is an addict, the best thing that you can do for yourself is to accept the fact that you can not hold yourself responsible for their actions.
