Helias girls romp past Kirksville

This one meant a little more than usual to the Helias Lady Crusaders.

Sure, the Kirksville Lady Tigers entered the game ranked No. 5 in Class 4, while the Lady Crusaders somehow dropped out of the poll released Tuesday despite not losing a game last week.

But that wasn’t it.

One, it was Senior Night. Two, the boys and girls basketball programs honored longtime booster Leon Vanderfeltz, who passed away last week, between the varsity games at Rackers Fieldhouse.

But even Helias head coach Doug Light was surprised at the final margin.

“That was not what I thought would happen at all,” Light said after Helias’ 59-34 victory.
