Meta boy hurt in JC accident

A Meta boy, 2, was in critical condition Saturday afternoon at University of Missouri’s Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Columbia after he was hurt in a one-vehicle accident on U.S. 50 West in Jefferson City.

Police reported Stephanie Wiebold, 30, Meta, was driving a 2001 Ford Mustang westbound in the expressway’s 1800 block — about two blocks east of Dix Road — when she “failed to maintain her lane of travel” because she was on her cellphone, “and therefore drove off the road striking a rock embankment.”

Police said the accident caused Wiebold’s son — Dallen Rackers, 2 — “to travel forward in the car and impact the interior of the vehicle” because he was riding “in the rear seat, unrestrained.”

The boy was treated at a local hospital, then flown to Columbia by helicopter.

Wiebold also wasn’t using a seat belt, the police said.

Sad and completly avoidable. Pay Attention and drive, SEATBELTS AND CHILD SEATS. Its not that hard and frankly the worn out excuse of choice and I survived growing up without using them is as lame as the day is long. We survived because nothing happened to us.

To bolster what you said, Justified, I agree with you. Both my Mother or my Father could drive our 57 chevrolet down roads that were far inferior to the roads that we drive today, and do it safely. Of course we did not have cell phones to distract us, I can guarantee that if we did my parents would have never used or answered the phone when they were transporting their children or even just themselves. People today seem to have to micro manage everyone around them. Over half of the women on missouri blvd are hiding behind a cell phone and the number for men is nearly as bad. I hope that in the near future that cell phone use while driving becomes a very serious offense, punishable by jail time. This woman needs to be charged with assault because of her actions, trust me it won't happen. Hopefully the child will be okay, and hopefully he will be far more intelligent than his mother, unlikely. Fruit falls close to the tree.
