Meta boy hurt in JC accident

A Meta boy, 2, was in critical condition Saturday afternoon at University of Missouri's Women's and Children's Hospital in Columbia after he was hurt in a one-vehicle accident on U.S. 50 West in Jefferson City.

Police reported Stephanie Wiebold, 30, Meta, was driving a 2001 Ford Mustang westbound in the expressway's 1800 block - about two blocks east of Dix Road - when she "failed to maintain her lane of travel" because she was on her cellphone, "and therefore drove off the road striking a rock embankment."

Police said the accident caused Wiebold's son - Dallen Rackers, 2 - "to travel forward in the car and impact the interior of the vehicle" because he was riding "in the rear seat, unrestrained."

The boy was treated at a local hospital, then flown to Columbia by helicopter.

Wiebold also wasn't using a seat belt, the police said.
